Our first project and our proposal was selected from a bunch of others even though it was completely different from the aesthetic brief of the owner.
This bakery was housed in a rundown government building in the heart of Mapusa market that made it look tacky and uninviting. We reworked the interiors and exterior colour scheme to give it a refreshing and enticing look.
The design drew from Spanish architectural influences to reflect the heritage of Spain’s St Francis Xavier, after whom the bakery is named.
Innovative construction methods were incorporated to keep the interiors cool. Wood was re-used where possible to save on costs and minimise the carbon footprint. A new artwork was created as an homage to the owners’ ancestral lineage.
