A narrow entrance from the road leads to an empty plot which looks out toward a dense coconut grove. Standing in the grove is a very serene experience. It was immediately decided to have the entertainment areas as close to this as possible and bring the serene vibe of the grove up to the house.
The major challenges were a long narrow plot and hence corridors and other negative spaces needed to be kept to a minimum. We eliminated them completely and even brought greenery in toward the centre of the house breaking its length while walking from the entrance to the living areas.
Large doors, with additional height for the living room make it well lit and well ventilated. A pergola outside diffuses direct light coming into the house reducing the need for air conditioning.
The upper floor bedrooms also look out toward the coconut grove and swimming pool. Large terraces outside make for great relaxing spaces.
A common terrace on the second floor has a great view and is perfect for hosting gatherings as an alternative to the front deck and pool.
